Julia Hartz - Building A $1.76 Billion Company From Nothing
Think of an events ticketing company. You’re probably thinking of Eventbrite and you’re right. Did you know though that the company was started by a woman? Julia Hartz, the CEO of the billion dollar company co-created it 12 years ago, along with two others including her husband, all inside a windowless warehouse in San Francisco. It took them two years to hire their first employees and now they have over 700 all over the world.
Hartz has been honoured with many awards over her years as CEO; being included in Inc.’s 35 Under 35, Fortune’s 40 Under 40 Business Leaders twice and named as one of Fortune's most powerful female entrepreneurs. In her years of experience she has focused on being a great leader, using empathy to support her staff and making Eventbrite not only a successful company but also one of the best places to work, according to Glassdoor and San Francisco Business Times.
Eventbrite IPO’d in September last year and in its first day of trading gained over 60% in its value, proving itself as one of tech’s hottest companies - and it’s only going to grow bigger.
Not only that, Hartz has worked tirelessly to ensure a 50-50 male to female ratio of employees and to create a diverse company at Eventbrite, actively hiring people different to herself, and she also makes time to give back by supporting future female entrepreneurs as part of All Raise’s Female Founder Office Hours.
Between her incredible business success, leadership acumen and efforts to support and empower women, Hartz is a role model for all of us, but for a female-founded company like Shello, she’s a true inspiration.
