Kate Gorman, the CEO Of The Brand New Games Company That’s Focusing On Women

When people think about gamers they think about men. However, women make up 45% of the games market and are being largely overlooked by big games companies. Enter Kate Gorman, formerly Zynga’s youngest ever Director of Product, who has just launched her own games company, Fort Mason Games and, according to Forbes, is ‘giving women what they want’. Finally.

Gorman started her career by taking over Zynga’s ‘Hit It Rich’ slots game from $0 to $145M+ and it is only fitting that her first game with FMG is also a casino game, called Confetti Slots. She believes that the future of gaming lies with women, playing on mobile to unwind and relieve stress and according to her it’s an untapped market of billions of dollars. In a male dominated industry, her mobile games are designed to appeal to women, by doing something unexpected: being respectful.

Gorman has found that women enjoy being social when they play games, inviting friends and interacting with other players by sending them gifts which turn into in game rewards. Confetti Slots is designed to do just that and the results are already coming in. 70% of its players are female and the app is in the top five casino apps, with high ratings on the app store.

We at Shello are very excited to see Fort Mason Games grow and look forward to the company’s future titles. We love a good game and we want more of them designed for us. Gorman is a rare beacon of light for female gamers and we hope that the traditional gaming companies take note and start looking at women as their target audience. In the meantime, feel free to join the Gaming group over on Shello where you can chat with other women gamers and discuss your favourites.
