It's time to face our fears
This Tuesday is National Face Your Fears day. Celebrated on the third Tuesday of October since 2007, it's a great opportunity to look at the fears that might be be holding us back and do something about it. Whether it's a fear of public-speaking or an irrational fear of spiders, the exhilaration you feel when you've conquered something that scares you is well worth pushing through the anxiety for.
If you don't know where to start then this TED talk by Tim Ferris (famous author of best-seller The 4-Hour Work Week) helps teach how to overcome self-paralysis and take action by fully envisioning and writing down our fears in detail, in a simple but powerful exercise he calls "fear-setting".
One thing many people share is a fear of rejection which can stop us from discovering amazing people, opportunities and experiences. Have a watch of author Jia Jiang's TED talk sharing his story of seeking out rejection for 100 days and what he learned and it might make you think differently.
And to keep you feeling motivated here is a list of quotes to help you face your fears to cut out and stick it on your bedroom mirror. I'll leave you with one of my favourites:
"You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do."
