Tips For Making New Female Friends

We make friends all our lives, ever since we are small kids. Sometimes though it may seem harder to make new friends as adults and a lot of women find it harder to grow their circle and instead have a smaller circle of close friends.

If you find yourself in need of some new female friends (maybe you moved, maybe you got a new hobby and you want to meet some other women who also like that too).

1. Be kind to everyone

Yes it looks obvious but a lot of times we come across as harsh without meaning to. Different sense of humour, lack of common experiences and sometimes even the language that we use can make us sound mean in conversations. Making a joke that sounds more mean than funny without them knowing that you are trying to make them laugh can have negative effects, especially over an online chat, where tone and voice can not be heard. Instead, try to be polite, observe how the others speak and follow along the tone of the conversation.

2. Respect everyone’s opinion

Sometimes people will say things you disagree with; some of them might not make sense at times, but at the end of the day everyone is allowed to say what’s in their minds. When you are with new people, it is important to be prepared for anything and react calmly. Thank them for sharing their thoughts, explain why your opinion might be different and discuss each one’s unique perspective of each situation. You might agree to disagree, but there is no need to turn it into an argument.

3. Compliment people on things they are good at

If one of your new friends has a talent or is passionate about something, make sure you let them know you noticed it. Most people put a lot of effort in their hobbies and the things they love, so showing that you appreciate it and that you think they should keep up the good work might mean a lot to them. On top of that, in their mind you will be the lovely person who appreciated their hard work and they will be happy to be around you, because you encourage them.

4. Share your passions

While there’s no guarantee that your new friend will like all the same things, sharing what you love with them might help them find out about something new and it will definitely show them more about you. If nothing else, you will show you are a passionate person, who has a lot of fun interests and is great to be around. This will also encourage them to share what they love with you.

5. Ask questions

If you want to know something about someone, just ask. Do they have pets, what’s their favourite food, where did they go on their last holiday, do they play any musical instruments? Asking questions will help you discover more about who the other person is and we are so much more than ‘what do you do for a living’ or ‘whereabouts do you live’. Be creative, think outside the box and ask something fun.

These tips are great for when you meet someone in person, in a group and even when you are new in a chat app like Shello and you want to introduce yourself and see who the others are. Say hello and ask away anything you’d like to know. Having friends is fun so there’s no reason the process of making them shouldn’t be just as fun!
